Romania withdraws from Eurovision 2024 due to financial reasons

TVR, the Romanian broadcaster, announced on Thursday afternoon that Romania will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

Despite ongoing discussions with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) regarding potential participation, the broadcaster has decided to withdraw definitively due to financial reasons. As a result, the number of participating countries remains at 37, with 15 countries in the first semi-final and 16 in the second.

In the semi-final in Liverpool, Romania did not receive any points for Theodor Andrei’s song. The country achieved its best results in 2005 and 2010 when it finished third in the final on both occasions.
