Singer Davina Michelle and actress Thekla Reuten will be seen in the interval act in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The interval act is titled “The Power of Water”. In a special way, Dutch water is central and the story of the power of the water is told.
During the 65th edition, the creators of the Eurovision Song Contest not only show the best of the Netherlands, but each act also has a suitable theme. The Netherlands and the water: they are inextricably linked. Reason enough for Head of Show Gerben Bakker to put the water first. “For centuries we Dutch have had a relationship with water that is unique in the world. We fought it, but we can’t live without it. In the act we tell the story of the power of the water and the resilience that we all have.”
For this unique one-off act, recordings have been made on the Delta Works in recent months, including with Davina Michelle herself. The music for this act was specially composed by Davina Michelle and her writing team. For the act, the most modern techniques are used and a world of water is created in Rotterdam Ahoy by means of augmented reality. “Water connects, is resilient and is an inseparable part of the Netherlands.” Davina Michelle: “Almost two years ago I was approached by the Eurovision team with the concept in which the story of water is central. Water connects, is resilient and is an inseparable part of the Netherlands. Together with Eurovision we have worked on a unique act in which these characteristics are central. I wrote the song “Sweet Water” in which water is used as a metaphor for something that connects people in the world. We are all different and live in different environments, but we all need water and bring us all together. I can’t wait to show what we’ve been working on together for so long.”
