Today, the Semi-Final Allocation Draw for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will take place in Basel, Switzerland.

This event will determine which countries will perform in each semi-final and in which half of the show. The draw ensures a fair and balanced distribution of participating countries across the two semi-finals, taking into account historical voting patterns to minimize bloc voting and enhance suspense during the shows.

A total of 37 countries will participate in Eurovision 2025. Montenegro returns to the competition after a two-year absence. Moldova initially planned to participate but later withdrew due to economic reasons and the quality of the national selection.

The ‘Big Five’ (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) and host country Switzerland are automatically qualified for the Grand Final on 17 May 2025. The remaining 31 countries will compete in the semi-finals on 13 and 15 May for a place in the final.

The draw will be hosted by Jennifer Bosshard and Jan van Ditzhuijzen and will include the official handover ceremony of the host city insignia from Malmö to Basel. Fans can watch the ceremony live via the official Eurovision Song Contest channels.
