EBU bans the word KANT in Malta’s entry

The European Broadcasting Union has informed the Maltese delegation that the word “Kant” should be removed from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 entry.

The title should be changed and the word should be removed from the lyrics. Miriana Conte was informed of the news while she was filming her video clip. No official reason was given for the banning of the word. However, the word sounds exactly like the English word ‘cunt’.

Miriana: “We have just learned that the EBU has decided that the Maltese word ‘Kant’ cannot be used in our Eurovision Song Contest entry. I am shocked and disappointed, especially since we have less than a week to officially submit the song.”

TVM News reports that the Reference Group had stated that “Kant” could be used in the song; the Maltese word translates to ‘singing’ in English. However, according to the Maltese broadcaster, a broadcaster they believe to be the BBC has requested that the song’s title be changed and the word removed from the song. Malta is now reviewing the EBU’s request.
